Covenant of Communion
by Pastor Jacques Days
The Adams Chapel Covenant of Communion is a concise statement of commitment signed by each believer after they have joined the church family.  It is a visible and written reminder of each member's relationship and responsibility to God and to one another and of the baptismal covenant into which each member has entered.  On the actual document, the scripture verses are quoted in their entirety.  The shortened version is written below.
I have believed in and received Christ as my Lord and Savior and have been baptized in His name.  Further, I have accepted the statements of the AME Book of Doctrine and Discipline and have chosen to unite with the body of believers at Adams Chapel AME Church.  Therefore, I commit or recommit myself to God and the members of my Church family by:
1.  Striving to protect the unity of my Church family
by choosing to love other members (1 Peter 1:22)
by refusing to gossip (Ephesians 4:29)
by honoring the leaders (Hebrews 13:17)
2.  Sharing the responsibilities for my Church’s growth in depth and number
by praying for other Church members (1 Thessalonians 1:2)
by inviting nonbelievers to attend (Luke 14:23)
by warmly welcoming visitors (Romans 15:7)
3.  Serving in my Church ministry
by discovering and using my gifts and talents (1 Peter 4:10)
by learning from the leaders to be equipped for service (Ephesians 4:11-12)
by serving and by encouraging others to use their gifts (Philippians 2:3-5,7)
4.  Supporting my Church’s testimony to visitors and the community
     by attending faithfully (Hebrews 10:24-25)
by living a godly life (Philippians 1:27)
by giving willingly (1 Corinthians 16:2; Leviticus 27:30)
